Why LED Lights Are Perfectly Suited For Your Office Space

By Edward Bell

Outdated or inadequate lighting can hurt your business in more ways than one. So if you're planning to renovate your Des Moines office space, lighting is one of the first things you'll need to upgrade. With more businesses choosing LEDs over other lighting solutions, perhaps it's time you learned of the benefits they could bring to your workplace.

Upon flipping the switch on an LED lamp for the first time, you'll be surprised to see how quick it hits full brightness. This would especially be true if you've had CFLs or HID lamps at your workplace, both of which require a warm-up period after they're switched on. Unlike these two, LEDs brighten up almost instantly, which makes them a more worthwhile upgrade over traditional incandescent bulbs.

On average, LED lighting requires about two-thirds the amount of power needed by standard lights. Just do the math and see how much less power you'll be consuming when you switch to the former. While you're at it, why not invest in a solar system as well? Besides reducing your consumption even further, this combination will also provide a reliable backup for your business.

Due to their glass construction, conventional lights don't last very long when subjected to rough conditions. Such include extreme changes in temperature, wind, rain, plus anything else that would expose them to shock. On the flip side, LEDs are designed as solid devices that don't rely on filaments or gas. This makes them far sturdier than conventional lighting solutions, which would come as great news if your headquarters are located in a cold or hot climate.

At best, incandescent lamps operate at just 20% efficiency, with the other 80% being converted to heat. When released into the surrounding air, this heat will significantly impair the performance of your air conditioner. Switching to LEDs could however provide provide some much-needed relief (both for your AC system and your pocket), thanks to their superior efficiency which ranges between 90 and 98 percent.

Switching to LED lighting when remodeling your space could result in a substantial rise in the productivity of your workers. This is partly because these lights can be combined in any shape to produce efficient illumination, but more due to their dimming capabilities. Simply put, no other solution compares to the ability of light-emitting diodes to allow continuous dimming when shifting between different illumination levels.

Whereas fluorescent lights contain mercury and other hazardous substances, almost all the materials used in the production of LEDs are 100% recyclable. Upgrading to the latter will thus save you from having to pay for special disposal procedures at the end of the product's useful lifespan. What's more, you'll effectively have placed your firm at the forefront of sustainability in an era where it's becoming increasingly important.

Having seen the various ways you could benefit from an LED retrofit, why not make it happen now? The longer you wait, the more you'll be paying in utility and maintenance costs. Keep in mind that you'll start saving as soon as you upgrade, which means your investment might pay off sooner than you think.
